We are unique

By Meshelle

The Youth Vocals group has been together for a long time, made up of young people who know what it’s like to have a social worker. For National Inclusion Week, they reflected on what truly matters to them. In doing so, they found their voices in a new way—as poets. Each member of the group wrote a poem titled “I Am,” expressing their unique strengths and identities.

“I am smart. I am creative. I am the best sister ever. I am a pioneer. I am passionate.” they declared, each line affirming their determination and resilience.

One voice —a passionate character, always sparking energy at the heart of the group, told a story, she had just applied for a job, and shared her excitement with the others. She was able to recite her application practically word for word from memory, beaming with pride.

“I am caring and kind

 I am going to succeed”

She declared. Her words echoed the hope and confidence that filled the room, reminding everyone that they deserve good things. An important message of inclusion.

In moments like these, the Youth Vocals group comes together not just as individuals, but as a collective voice of support, —

“We are unique”

Yes pioneers indeed. The only group of its type in the country!
