Friday Story – The spirit of Christmas

The spirit of Christmas

The spirit of Christmas came alive this year as Cavendish House was transformed into a caring, candy cane-themed space, brimming with warmth and hope. The festive decorations were more than just ornaments—they were paired with heartfelt stories, carefully crafted and shared to inspire connection.

Pinned on Christmas trees and displayed around the office, the stories told meaningful tales of healing and family.

In “The Christmas Wish,” Eliza, a young girl in foster care, quietly wished for peace and hope after a difficult year. Her foster mum, Sandra, noticed Eliza’s sadness and gifted her a special ornament as a symbol that healing takes time and that she isn’t alone.

In “The Christmas Miracle for Lizzie,” Lizzie, nervous about spending Christmas without her family, was surprised by her social worker, who is bringing her family together for a small but meaningful celebration. Despite tough times, the love and care surrounding Lizzie is a mini Christmas miracle.

This creative project was led by student Alex, from Hastings and St Leonards FST, who involved the whole team and thoughtfully organised the space and stories, creating moments of reflection and connection during a season that can be difficult for some young people. Cavendish House became a place of comfort and joy—where small stories of hope and love shone bright. The team’s efforts for the children and families they support remind us all of the true meaning of Christmas.
