Career Development Framework
Connected Progress is the continuing professional development framework for Social Workers in East Sussex. It describes opportunities and expectations for Social Workers working in Children’s Services as they move through their careers.
Connected Progress enables Social Workers to:
- Build on existing and develop new knowledge and skills required for a strengths based approach, underpinned by the Professional Capability Framework (PCF) and Knowledge and Skills Statements (KSS)
- Understand and work towards requirements for pay and progression, social work registration and further accreditation
- Navigate your own individual career path through a range of supporting and enriching opportunities.

Roles
These are the roles in order of responsibility and seniority:
- Newly Qualified Social Worker (NQSW)
- Social Worker
- Senior Social Worker
- Professional Education Consultant (PEC) – this role which is within the Social Work Education Team is all about supporting NQSWs and experienced social workers and delivering training and facilitating group work – for information about how to achieve this role see the Social Worker Progression page.
- Practice Manager – this may be managing a social work team, a Connected Families team or specialist service in SWIFT.
- Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO)
- Child Protection Advisor/Chair (CPA)
- Advanced Practitioner – this role sits in our SWIFT specialist service – more information coming soon.
- Operations Manager
- Head of Service
- Assistant Director
