Friday Story – Stage by stage

Stage by stage

In February, a young person with high levels of anxiety and OCD was sectioned into hospital after falling into a catatonic state. He was  malnourished and rapidly losing weight. It was a bleak moment for him and his family. However, after lots of conversations with both the young person and his parents, we developed a comprehensive care package that allowed him to return home with the support he needed.

Funding from Nurse Plus enabled a critical piece of his care, ensuring he doesn’t skip meals or medication. We also built a tailored education syllabus around his interests—Nature, Psychology, and History—subjects that engage his brain and suit his Autism. His parents were a involved in the process, helping monitor progress each week.

His Connected Coach supports him. A visual timetable was introduced to show where he would be staying—whether at his mum’s or dad’s—and when professionals would visit, providing structure and predictability. With ways like an agreed simple traffic light method to monitor his mental health.

With all this in place, he is back at home. His parents feel more confident in managing his needs, and in a couple of weeks, he will start college—an achievement that seemed almost impossible just a few months ago. So far, the system is working, and his progress in such a short time has been nothing short of remarkable.

Touch wood, we are hopeful this new chapter continues to unfold positively.
